After a long and painful fall term at Pitt in 2007, and a much better, but still slightly painful spring term in 2008, I'm back in the saddle again with my writing.
The fall term was my first term back to college in fifteen years. As many of you know, I decided to go back to school to make a major career change. I'm glad I've done it, and I know it will pay off for a better life for me and my son, but I can tell you this--when I say that first term back was a painful term, believe me, it was a painful term.
It was difficult for me to wake parts of my brain up that hadn't been used for a long time. Studying and retaining large amounts of information took time and patience for me. On top of that, I went into the fall term with an unexpected personal tragedy that hit me last summer like a ton of bricks, and though I'd gotten over the majority of the shock, I was still a bit traumatized.
Then, throughout the term, there was an onslaught of events that just seemed like they wore me down. By the time Christmas break arrived, I felt like I'd been squeezed through the wringer.
Well, you know what they say... When it rains, it pours.
I finally realized I needed to take control of my life. I made some needed changes and thank goodness I was able to get control of some things for the spring term.
Life became less stressful and more peaceful after I made some necessary adjustments, and though there've been some tweaks along the way, life has settled into a flow that's much more positive. Whew! While I can handle an occasional bump in the road, it's nearly impossible to give life the proper attention it needs while attempting to navigate a minefield.
I'll have further thoughts to come in a "take control of your life" post in the future, lol. Anyway, the spring term was much better after I made those adjustments, and I've got life back to a pretty much peaceful ebb and flow.
It was hard to keep up with my writing and web updates while taking classes full time. I fell behind on some projects I'd been working on, and finally accepted that I'd need to focus on school work alone for a bit. I missed my writing, but the good news is that my muse had a chance to store up some ideas. She can't wait to get started with a few projects.
*Lee warms up her typing fingers and muse give a squee!*
My website is updated and up again. It had some problems with server communication for a while. I had to rattle some cages, but everything is all ironed out now. The site is still under construction though, so please be patient. The address is still http://www.leemorrison.org/ so check it out when you have a minute.
Did you know there are several writing contests currently under way at The Wild Rose Press? If you're up for a short story entry, stop by and check out the various lines. Each rose division offers something for everyone.
I'm working on restoring the links in my side bar this week. I'll have that area updated very soon, along with the various pages of my website.
Have a great Thursday, and remember...it's Friday Eve! :)
